چکیده
Based on ten-year tropical cyclones (TCs) observations from 2009 to 2018, the black body temperature (TBB, also called cloud-top brightness temperature) data obtained infrared channel 1 (with wavelength of 10.30–11.30 µm) FY-2 satellite image, and wind observation at automatic weather stations (AWSs) in Guangdong province, this study explores relationship between TBBs winds induced by TCs AWSs. It is found that speeds AWSs cannot be directly using TBB value inversion, but maximum potential gust (MPG) average-wind (MPAW) can estimated when a known. Influenced terrain, surrounding environment, detected height, MPG MPAW values different may differ for same TBB. The ERA5 reanalysis used explore over grids area during TCs’ periods. Similar AWSs, there capping function TBBs. generally show average conditions inside grids, therefore, supplement areas where no AWS available. Such could provide references estimating disasters area.

Estimating Tropical Cyclone Size in the Northwestern Pacific from Geostationary Satellite Infrared Images
Thirty-year (1980–2009) tropical cyclone (TC) images from geostationary satellite (GOES, Meteosat, GMS, MTSAT and FY2) infrared sensors covering the Northwestern Pacific were used to build a TC size dataset based on objective models. The models are based on a correlation between the size of TCs, defined as the mean azimuth radius of 34 kt surface winds (R34) and the brightness temperature radia...
متن کاملKalman filter physical retrieval of surface emissivity and temperature from geostationary infrared radiances
The high temporal resolution of data acquisition by geostationary satellites and their capability to resolve the diurnal cycle allows for the retrieval of a valuable source of information about geophysical parameters. In this paper, we implement a Kalman filter approach to apply temporal constraints on the retrieval of surface emissivity and temperature from radiance measurements made from geos...
متن کاملComparisons of Aatsr-derived Sea Surface Temperature with Estimates from a Geostationary Satellite
During May and June 2003 the Australian RV Southern Surveyor was operating in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Northern Australia. Measurements of sea surface temperature (SST) were made using the ship’s thermosalinograph and a single-channel infrared radiometer. During this period the data from several space-borne instruments were obtained including those from AATSR, ATSR-2, MODIS, AVHRR, AMSR-E, and ...
متن کاملRetrieving Clear-Sky Surface Skin Temperature for Numerical Weather Prediction Applications from Geostationary Satellite Data
Atmospheric models rely on high-accuracy, high-resolution initial radiometric and surface conditions for better short-term meteorological forecasts, as well as improved evaluation of global climate models. Remote sensing of the Earth’s energy budget, particularly with instruments flown on geostationary satellites, allows for near-real-time evaluation of cloud and surface radiation properties. T...
متن کاملSea Surface Temperature Estimation from the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-12 (GOES-12)
This paper describes the techniques used to obtain sea surface temperature (SST) retrievals from the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite 12 (GOES-12) at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of Satellite Data Processing and Distribution. Previous SST retrieval techniques relying on channels at 11 and 12 mm are not applicable because GOES-12 lacks the latter ...
